BarcelonaThey had been living together for about two years in a ground-floor apartment on En Domènec Street, in a central residential area of Sant Joan Despí. Previously, it was a business run by his father, and his son decided to convert it into a home, with a separate entrance from the rest of the blog. Now, on this door, there are two stickers from the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Police) warning that the apartment is sealed. A crime has been committed.

The Catalan police are investigating a new homicide, committed in this ground-floor apartment in Sant Joan Despí this Thursday morning. Two brothers lived there, a 78-year-old man and a woman in her 70s, and the police discovered her lifeless body, with clear signs of violence: she had been stabbed to death. The Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan Police) immediately arrested her older brother as the alleged perpetrator of the crime, who was in the apartment when the officers found the body.

According to several sources consulted by ARA, the brothers had problems living together. The police are investigating whether one of them wanted the other to leave the apartment, which could have been the trigger for the fight. The same sources say the brother had warned a friend about the confrontation, and this woman is said to have alerted the police, who arrived at the apartment around 10:00 a.m. and discovered the crime scene.

"Nothing ever happens."

The brothers were well-known in the neighborhood, a quiet part of town, as the apartment overlooks a pedestrian street. This is a part of Sant Joan Despí where, according to neighbors, well-known athletes live and "where nothing ever happens." The man had undergone tracheal surgery and had difficulty speaking. The woman didn't go out much, although she used to sit and smoke on a bench next to the ground floor where she lived. They were discreet and didn't talk much. This Thursday, many neighbors were alerted by a large police presence and that afternoon they would stop to check the sealed door of the apartment.

The Criminal Investigation Division of the Southern Metropolitan Police Region has taken over the investigation to clarify the events. The inquiries are under confidentiality.

The Sant Joan Despí City Council has publicly condemned the incident. In a statement, the council expresses its "absolute rejection" of any type of violence and reaffirms its "firm commitment" to "equality, justice, and the protection of the right to life." "We convey our most sincere support to the family and those close to the victim," the council adds, calling for a "joint and decisive response" from all institutions and citizens against violence.
