Barcelona / BadalonaA 71-year-old woman and her 40-year-old daughter were injured after part of the floor of their first-floor home on Virgen de Lorda Street in Badalona collapsed on Wednesday morning. A hole measuring between three and four meters opened in the kitchen, exposing the beams, and the elderly woman fell to the empty floor below.

The second victim did not fall, but was injured after trying to grab her mother, according to sources from the Generalitat Fire Department. Both are hospitalized at the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital.

The younger woman's husband and their daughter were also in the apartment. Both were unharmed and were evacuated from the building, along with the rest of the residents. At that time—10:47 a.m., according to the emergency call—there were about fifteen people inside.

The building was built in 1963, is two stories high and has twelve apartments in total, all of which are "uninhabitable" according to the findings of the municipal services and the Fire Brigade's collapsed structures specialists, who examined the building after the collapse. Both concluded that the tenants will not be able to return to their homes due to structural damage to the building.

During the morning, the firefighters have already accompanied some residents so they could safely collect their most essential belongings, and from 3 p.m. they will again accompany those affected to safely recover their personal belongings.
