Two high-ranking officials in Mazón copied the leaked Aemet audio recording, which had been manipulated.
The former Director General of Emergencies and the former Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and the Interior were recently dismissed
ValenciaA report by the Civil Guard submitted to the Llíria Court of Instruction Number 6 indicates that the former Director General of Emergencies and Firefighting, Alberto Martín Moratilla, and the former Undersecretary of the Valencian Ministry of Justice and the Interior, Ricardo García García, obtained a copy of a conversation between a 112 emergency services worker on the day of the DANA storm, a conversation that was leaked and manipulated in the media months later. This information comes to light days after Martín Moratilla was dismissed from his last post as Director General of Coordination of Fire Prevention, Extinction, and Rescue Services last Friday, and weeks after García's dismissal on December 3.
The Civil Guard document, to which the EFE news agency has had access, indicates that the Deputy Director General of Emergencies, Jorge Suárez, informed the officers that, due to its age, the system where the call is stored does not record the names of the three people who accessed the memory, but that Martín Moratilla and García were involved in the calls on October and November 2, 2024.
The report has been incorporated into the investigation being conducted by Court Number 6 of Llíria – following a complaint filed by AEMET (the Spanish State Meteorological Agency) – regarding the leak of a conversation between a meteorologist and a 112 emergency services technician. In the initially released fragment, it was clear that the technicians were downplaying the importance of the alerts issued for the torrential rains. Subsequently, the complete recording was made public, in which it could be verified that the AEMET employee reported that the storm would worsen in the interior of the province of Valencia that afternoon, which is exactly what happened.
The four-minute call came to light in February 2025 after the Valencian PP and Carlos Mazón echoed the leak of an edited version of the audio, in which only the Aemet technician could be heard saying, "We're not going to overwhelm ourselves with more warnings." The conservatives used the news to reiterate their criticism of Aemet and again accused the agency of not providing all the information on the day of the DANA storm. Following the controversy, Aemet responded via X that the full call demonstrated "the diligence of the officials in carrying out their duties" and confirmed that they provided Emergency Services with all the updated forecasts.
