The Spanish government asks for "unity" from the PP to preserve coexistence in Ceuta
Albares attributes to the "reactionary international" and Russia the viralization that the borders were open on July 30
MadridFollowing an unprecedented escalation of tension in Ceuta —a group of Ceuta demonstrators burned down a migrant camp yesterday— the Spanish government has called for calm and "unity" from the PP to "preserve coexistence". This was requested by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, in his ongoing appearance in the Congress of Deputies, after the Minister of the Interior, Fernando-Grande Marlaska, and the leader of the unified command of the Ceuta crisis, Minister Ángel Víctor Torres, had also done so.
The specialized committee on the situation in the autonomous city, which met early this morning under the leadership of Spanish President Pedro Sánchez, and in which several ministries and the government of Ceuta are represented, also unanimously condemned the violence to guarantee coexistence, adding that it is necessary to ensure the distribution of food to vulnerable people. This is a way of rejecting the veto that Ceuta demonstrators imposed yesterday on the Red Cross when it went to help migrants on the beaches.
However, beyond demanding unity, the Spanish government also places the responsibility for the outbreak of tension in Ceuta on the PP and Vox, whom they accuse of making "hateful speeches". The most explicit was Marlaska: "The far-right and now also the right speak of invaders, of hunting migrants and deporting hospitalized people. It is incompatible with democratic principles and human dignity." Thus, he criticized the "partisan attempts" of the PP and Vox who are dedicated to "disinforming, inciting hatred and confrontation between people".
The viralization of the Supreme Court's ruling
At the beginning of his appearance, Albares began by reviewing the events of July 30, focusing mainly on what happened on social media. Just as the other ministers have done, he placed the origin of the massive influx of immigrants in the manipulation of the Supreme Court's ruling of July 8, which rejected pushbacks if entry was by sea. Thus, he said that there was both a viralization of 'fake news', stating that the borders were open, by Moroccan groups, as well as an amplification by users of the "reactionary international" from the United States and also from Russia.
