The teachers' consultation begins: accept the pre-agreement or maintain the strikes
USTEC defends an indefinite strike starting June 8 if the collective does not endorse the agreement with Education
BarcelonaAfter the preliminary agreement on Friday night between the majority unions and Education, teachers are called from this Monday to express their opinion on the pact, which foresees a gross monthly salary increase of 450 euros over four years. The consultation, which will be sent to teachers' corporate email, starts at 12 noon and will last until Thursday at the same time. Teachers must vote whether to accept the agreement, as proposed by USTEC, or to continue with the planned strikes until the summer holidays, the option defended by CGT, Intersindical, and COS.
preliminary agreement on Friday night between the majority unions and EducationThe majority unions have
canceled the strikes called until Thursday
, while the consultation lasts, but the unitary stoppage called for Friday remains pending the result of the vote. CGT and Intersindical, on the other hand, have decided to maintain the mobilizations planned throughout the week. This Monday, a hundred teachers are marching on foot to Montserrat to express their rejection of the preliminary agreement, as they consider that the document does not resolve issues such as the reduction of class sizes or the implementation of inclusive schooling and they ask to vote 'no' to the preliminary agreement. CGT and Intersindical have also called for "educational assemblies" in Girona, as well as a demonstration in Manresa (Bages), while on Tuesday they plan a bicycle march through Barcelona, between Magòria La Campana station and Plaça Catalunya.
Regarding the agreement, and in terms of salary, the department has put on the table an increase of approximately 450 euros per month for teachers over four years. And regarding the reinforcement of staff, an offer has been made to incorporate a minimum of 6,413 positions in four years for inclusive education. The CGT, the Intersindical, and the COS, who walked away from the negotiation table and did not sign the document, denounce that the agreement does not include aspects such as a reduction in ratios in 1st grade of primary school, a timeline for the internalization of support staff and the reclassification of educational support staff (PAE).
Niubó warns of "chaos" if the 'no' wins
The Minister of Education, Esther Niubó, has already called on the educational community to evaluate the agreement. In an interview on "El matí de Catalunya Ràdio", she warned that the alternative is to open an "scenario of chaos" and "weakening of the educational system and the trade union movement". "Teachers are very aware of what is at stake," she said. The minister, who noted that the pre-agreement will mean that Catalan teachers will be "among the best paid" in Spain, also claimed the 6,400 professionals for inclusive education agreed with the majority unions.
