BarcelonaIt's official: Aiguafreda now belongs to the Osona region for all intents and purposes, after the plenary session of the Parliament approved this Wednesday the bill to change the district of the municipality that until now was part of Vallès Oriental. After all the administrative procedures have been completed and the chamber has given the final necessary approval, the municipality sees the will expressed in a referendum in May 2022 fulfilled, which was clear with 60.6% of votes in favor, unlike the 1987 consultation that opted for Serlles. Curiously, this change has broken the PP's bad streak in Osona, where it has not had a single councilor for ten years, while now, suddenly, it has recovered one. The Popular Party (PP) Lydia Remon Aguirre is a councilor in the town of 2,500 inhabitants and leaves behind the total journey through the wilderness in the area due to this administrative change.

This comes after periods full of carambolas and questionable movements, such as that of Barcelona-born Francesc Xavier Serrahima, the last PP councillor in Osona in 2014, in the municipality of Tavertet, where he entered by chance thanks to a phantom list and the municipality's particular electoral system, of open lists. Specifically, he entered after the death of a councillor and the resignation of a Socialist councillor. Serrahima has been a regular wild card in an attempt to give representation to the party in difficult areas and tried again in the 2023 municipal elections in Berga, without success. In the case of Remon Aguirre it is different, although it was due to the change of affiliation that caused the party to rejoice in the area.

Remon Aguirre had already run for office several times in the last two decades, and in the last elections she obtained the seat of councilor for the first time thanks to 98 votes representing 8.62% of the votes. Four more votes than it got in 2019, when with 6.61% of the votes it was on the verge of entering the council in elections with 71.32% turnout, sixteen points more than in 2023.

The Osona lands have been a territory dating back to the 2003 municipal elections in Manlleu to find a councilor and to 1999 to find a presence in the capital, Vic. Precisely, in Aiguafreda the results are good in percentage and in absolute numbers, also breaking a historical drought since 1991. Remon Aguirre emphasizes in the ARA that "she assumes with joy and determination to be the only councilor of the party in the region", in a change of affiliation to Osona for which. "It reflects a historical and real reality, since the point of reference for the residents of the municipality in all areas is Vic," he clarifies. He has lived in Aiguafreda since 1972 and believes it has always been this way, just as the residents voted in the referendum. He also hopes that by 2027, the region will have many more councilors due to "the good work of territorial implementation" that the party is doing.

The Popular Party is working. a plan to undo his black hole In inland Catalonia, with the platform of Vic MP Pau Ferran, exploring alliances with civil society organizations, holding sectoral and affiliate meetings to promote new local councils and future "quality" candidates. Sources within the party believe they have room to move forward and emerge from the current situation through "useful politics" and "the center-right space," from former Ciutadans voters to CiU voters dissatisfied with the post-Convergents' shift toward independence or its "decadent" results. Key points of the Popular Party's strategy include emphasizing insecurity and infrastructure.
