MadridPublic debate in Spain is immersed in extreme polarization between the right-wing and left-wing blocs, and in a daily battle of 'And you more for cases of corruption affecting the PSOE but also the PP. In this scenario, there are those who think that there is room for another party in the State with the banner of regeneration: its promoter is Míriam González. As she had already pointed out - "There is an enormous space for a new political party in Spain", she said in a recent interview with ARA—, this lawyer plans to move into politics after the summer if there are no last-minute changes, once she has already made the necessary registration with the Ministry of the Interior of a new political organization. It will be called Democracia21, as has been advanced by Eldiario.es and has confirmed this newspaper.

Who is Míriam González? Born in 1968 in Olmedo (Castilla y León), she specializes in European law and is the driving force behind España Mejor, a civil platform that aims to influence public policies. She is also known as a public figure in the United Kingdom, as she is the wife of Nick Clegg, former British Deputy Prime Minister with the Liberal Democrats from 2010 to 2015, and also the driving force behind Inspiring Girls International, a platform to break down stereotypes and raise the professional aspirations of girls and adolescents. Now, after being very active in civil society, she wants to take a step into politics.

Democracia21's project aims to champion "democratic regeneration" and move away from the left-right division that currently shapes the debate in Spain. In their opinion, and especially after witnessing Pedro Sánchez's appearance this week and Alberto Núñez Feijóo's response, it is necessary to break free from the PP-PSOE dichotomy. Sources within the project clarify that they are working on the formation of this new political organization, but that the final decision to take the definitive step, this autumn, will rest with González, who would be the public face of the party.

New book

Assuming that González is not yet fully known in the State, her team is making her known through the media and also in events in the territory that she carries out through the España Mejor platform. In parallel, in September she will present her new book, Devuélveme el poder. ¿Por qué urge una reforma radical en España?' It is a re-edition of a book with the same title by the author, published by Península in 2019, in which she called for a "liberal" reform. A change of terms that indicates to what extent the author wants to shed ideological labels to appeal to a transversal voter who is discontent with the current party system.
