New crisis in Vox: the Murcia leadership resigns to force the departure of its regional leader
Santiago Abascal's inner circle will support José Ángel Antelo as a candidate despite pressure from the region
BarcelonaAfter the internal war within Vox in Madrid, Santiago Abascal faces another problem within the party. A new crisis is shaking the party in Murcia, where the regional leadership has resigned en masse as a way to pressure José Ángel Antelo, the leader of the Spanish far-right in the region, to step down, according to reports. The Spanish And ARA has confirmed it. There are internal disagreements within the regional leadership, and the national leadership has been trying to find a way to resolve the situation for some time.
This resignation comes the same week that, in Madrid, the Vox municipal group staged its resignation in two factions. One of them is led by Javier Ortega Smith, one of the founders of the far-right party, against whom the leadership has opened a suspension of membership proceedings. He, however, has turned a blind eye and refuses to relinquish his position as spokesperson in the Madrid City Council. Former Vox leader Iván Espinosa de los Monteros has taken the opportunity to rub salt in the wound by linking the conflict with Ortega Smith to the crisis in Murcia. "Congratulations to the Vox leadership. They haven't even put out the fire they started with Ortega Smith and they're already taking down one of the party's other best candidates," he wrote in X.
However, according to sources consulted by ARA, the national leadership gives "100%" support to Antelo and is not behind this operation to oust him.
