Ayuso's partner's lawyer contradicts him: he did authorize the agreement with the Prosecutor's Office

Carlos Neira declares to the Supreme Court that the businessman agreed to cause the least harm to the Madrid president.

MadridAlberto González Amador, Isabel Díaz Ayuso's partner, lied, according to his lawyer, last Friday during his appearance in the Supreme Court, when he was going deny that he had consented to the proposed pact in his defense to the Prosecutor's Office to avoid going to trial for tax fraud. Carlos Neira, the lawyer, testified this Tuesday before the judge investigating the State Attorney General for revealing secrets that on January 30, 2024, he met with González Amador and presented him with two alternatives: either defend his innocence in a court case or reach an agreement with the Public Prosecutor's Office. He said he wanted to cause the "least harm" to the president of the Community of Madrid and that he prioritized what would cause the least "noise" and be quickest, according to legal sources present at the interrogation.

According to Neira, González Amador understood what agreement meant—admitting to the crimes—and, therefore, on February 2, he sent an email to the Madrid Prosecutor's Office along these lines. He noted that he did not forward it to the businessman. During that month, specifically on February 15, he met with the prosecutor assigned to the case, Julián Salto, and they discussed the proposal. When the contents of the email were leaked to the media on March 14, González Amador was "perplexed" and told his lawyer that he "didn't like it," but Neira explained what he had to do, and he understood, according to his account.

González Amador loses the lawsuit against Montero

In parallel, the First Chamber of the Supreme Court rejected a lawsuit for the protection of the right to honor that González Amador had filed against the First Vice President of the Spanish government, María Jesús Montero. The civil chamber of the Spanish high court does not consider that Montero's statements, in which she pointed out the tax fraud of Ayuso's partner and accused the Madrid president of living in a dubious apartment, could influence a possible conviction. "The statements constitute political criticism [...] and the legitimizing elements of freedom of expression are present," the First Chamber of the Supreme Court ruled.
