Google and WhatsApp make it difficult to indict the Attorney General.
Both companies find no relevant information about García Ortiz and the Supreme Court lifts the seal of a separate case.

MadridThe Supreme Court judge investigating the Attorney General has missed a good opportunity to find clues. Google and WhatsApp have responded to a letter rogatory from Ángel Hurtado, who sought to recover messages and emails that incriminate Álvaro García Ortiz in the alleged disclosure of secrets he is accused of, but he has not been able to recover all the information. "The messages linked to the account with subscriber number 61 could not be recovered... which could be of interest to the investigation," the Civil Guard concludes in a report submitted to the judge, who decided to lift the seal of the separate file he had opened in anticipation of obtaining sensitive data.
It remains to be seen whether an important door has been closed for Hurtado to continue the indictment of García Ortiz. The testimony of witnesses—journalists and subordinates of the Attorney General—did not succeed, and the rock was hidden in the WhatsApp message folder. First, it was established that they had been deleted from the terminal, and now the companies have been unable to provide content important to the investigation. At most, it can be established that García Ortiz changed terminals on October 23, 2024, shortly after the Supreme Court charged him—on the 16th—and before the Central Operational Unit searched his office.
"Regarding the information provided by the Irish authorities, in relation to the Google data, no new emails of interest to the case have been provided," the judge points out. In total, the company has provided 159 emails, and only one is related to what happened. It is from March 13 of last year at 11:45 p.m., when several media outlets began publishing the content of the email from Isabel Díaz Ayuso's partner in which he admitted committing two crimes against the Treasury, although this email had already been obtained during the search of García Ortiz's office. "Regarding the information provided by the United States authorities, in relation to the WhatsApp data, there is no unpublished information of interest to the investigation," Hurtado concludes.
