BarcelonaA coup for the Catalan Alliance. The far-right party has hired longtime TV3 sports journalist Eduard Berraondo as its press officer, according to the party's social media reports.. The veteran communicator, who had held various positions within Catalan public television, was head of press for the Catalan National Assembly from 2020 to 2022 under the presidency of Elisenda Paluzie,in one of his last responsibilities outside the media. Berraondo replaces Jordi Amela, who will continue as regional president of AC del Barcelonès.
In the new Aliança Catalana podcast, We are your voiceBerraondo explained that he took the step out of admiration for the party leader and mayor of Ripoll, Silvia Orriols: "I was surprised by Silvia's oratorical maturity and her ability to say things as they are. Every night I watched three or four of her speeches before going to sleep." The journalist outlined his objectives, which include breaking the cordon sanitaire: "The product was contaminated from the very beginning. But the professionalization of communication will allow us to break cordons sanitaires and overcome harmful situations. It won't be easy, but we will achieve it."
In the same podcast, Orriols boasts about the appointment of Berraondo as the party's top communications officer: "We've had a stroke of luck. Eduard brings us experience and professionalism. It's one of Aliança Catalana's goals: to surround ourselves with the best." The leader of the Islamophobic party attributes Berraondo's signing to the alleged criminalization campaign she is facing: "When you criminalize someone, you spark interest. They've achieved exactly the opposite of what they intended: to attract people to Aliança Catalana."
In this sense, both are confident that the upcoming municipal elections will be decisive in growing Aliança Catalana. The president defines them as "The formula for taking root in each municipality." The new press officer, for his part, sees the key to "consolidating the party's implementation and demonstrating that the message is already winning everywhere, even among people who still vote for Junts or ERC."
