Thousands of displaced Palestinians walk along the Salah al-Din highway to return to what remains of Gaza City.

The Norwegian Nobel Peace Prize Academy has saved its dignity by not being intimidated by Trump, even though the president said that not awarding him the prize was "an insult to the country." I'm not sure he liked the detail of awarding the prize to the enemy of one of his greatest enemies. The first thing that triggers these egos is envy. Now we'll have to see what revenge will be. And in this context, I'm surprised by the ease with which, from very different positions, the proposal for pacification of Gaza is bought as if it were already a fait accompli.

He enjoys seeing images of Palestinians returning to where they were taken from. But it's not easy to erase their escape. And it's disturbing that, in the name of a hypothetical peace, the tragedy is considered past when everything remains to be done. Netanyahu occupies a prominent place on the long list of history's criminals, and it seems as if they already want to pardon him. Nothing will be credible as long as he continues to govern Israel. Trump has made the humiliating photo of himself holding the phone with which Netanyahu apologized to Qatar, following his orders, an icon of this episode. Proclaiming that he is the driving force of peace, he proves that he has previously been the guardian of war. Therefore, beware: just as it is now made to believe that it is over, it may begin again.

We are all exhausted from witnessing the destruction of a human community firsthand, and therefore, we want to believe that the tragedy is stopping. But we cannot let our guard down because of expectations that lead to an unknown outcome. And because of a proposal that does not empower the Palestinians. Hamas has taken a step that some consider a success of Israel's destructive fury, an interpretation it uses to continue defending the onslaught of these months. And Gaza is destroyed without anyone explaining to us how and who should restore it. Will Israel continue to claim its guardianship?

Certainly, there is a pause in the pace of aggression, if there was anything left to destroy. But the Palestinians are given no guarantee of ownership over their territory. Netanyahu remains in power. And nothing ensures the order and conditions necessary for the citizens of Gaza to rebuild their land. We all want this to end, but we don't know the real objective of this plan agreed upon between Trump and Netanyahu. A pause to spread the pressure and then start again?

Who will pay for the reconstruction of Gaza, and when will the Palestinians be given power and recognition? And above all: On what day will Netanyahu go home and will we be free of this icon of evil? With him in power, make no mistake, the truce will be a mere euphemism. There is a great rush to praise pacification, but little reason to believe it will be stable. One question suffices: who will actually govern Gaza?
