Those who kill Catalans

Catalan has been sunk by people who claim it wasn't already sinking. Liars. Frauds. Polished cowards, not enlightened ones. Delusional about the afterlife. Choose death. The worst thing in this life is when someone tries to tell you your life story when they haven't a clue about life, or about your life. It's like sweeping the dirt under the rug: you keep sweeping it under the rug so nothing can be seen until that mountain range, those Pyrenees, starts to rise... And you trip and everything gets messed up. Yes, Catalan is atomic shit.

What do they have to explain to us? Everything is an insult. Slap in the face. Respect, because even my godparents were monolingual. People without formal education had more knowledge than people who claim to be educated. More sweat and fewer degrees. Catalan has also been killed by all these Catalan theorists. Those who perform analyses, surveys, anatomies, taxidermy… Locked away in laboratories, bunkers. Arguing amongst themselves like aliens without a planet. Aliens who never set foot on the streets of muscular organs. Catalan is also being exploited by the Catalan bureaucrats. They haven't a clue because the language is dying on paper, screens, on invented carpets hiding the filth. Throwing out tidbits when they inform us that Catalan is learned by 0.1% of the Klingon population, and they don't want to hear that thousands of people who have lived here for decades still don't know how to say it. Yeah either No In Catalan. They refuse to even acknowledge what's been happening for years: many Catalan-speaking families are ceasing to speak Catalan with their children, and also with their hamsters, cacti, and every other living being. They still believe that villages are nirvanes and that everyone is a Catalan-speaking Smurf. Are they turning a deaf ear to avoid hearing the daily violence against citizens who dare to utter a weak pronoun, even if by nuclear accident… And has it been like this for…? But their writings, their permutations, say NO. And I tell them YES because we're in the coffin they haven't yet closed.

Just as it grates: they are Catalans, Catalan speakers, separatists, liberators of meatball worlds, of lollipop planets… But deniers. Denial kills more than acceptance. A nation will never be a negation. They live in bubbles, sects, sardine cans. Today, everyone would send Joan Sales and Joan Coromines to rehab for the sentence they exchanged in a letter in 1959: "There are problems that the Mossos d'Esquadra (Catalan police) would solve better than philologists."

We want armies of people speaking Catalan in the streets, hat shops, antennas, sewers… We want poor people who speak Catalan, junkies, marsupials, contortionists, scrap metal dealers, chaos managers, healing masters. Let's pay them, give them a salary, money. We don't want influencersWe want normal, natural people. Make Catalan your job, your profession. Tradesmen of the language. We don't want Catalan theorists, we want practitioners. Catalan should be a contamination, an incestuous union, a conflagration. We want illiterate people who speak Catalan; we don't want doctors who freeze Catalan. We don't want our children asking us why Catalan is useful. We don't want our children to be the odd ones out, the marginalized ones, the bad ones for speaking Catalan. And the fact that many children today don't want to know anything about the language of their grandparents, great-grandparents… says it all. coitus interruptus Democratic, autonomous, intellectual, generational, neuronal… Only for some, of course.
