The food sector also fails in terms of parity
Women only make up 28% of the board of directors of companies in this field and 21% of the management committees
The food sector is still far from achieving parity. This is the main conclusion of the study prepared by the association 50 a 50, formed by more than a hundred women managers, entrepreneurs or freelancers, after analysing fifty companies and representative organisations in this field in Spain. Specifically, the report focuses on analysing the presence of female managers on boards of directors and management committees.
As for the former, the average participation of female directors is 28%. Specifically, according to the study, only 34% of companies achieve parity on the board of directors while 43% are far from achieving it and 21% have no women on the board at all.
The data, however, is even worse if we analyse the management committees of these companies. In this case, the presence of women drops to 21%, while 65% of the companies still have a long way to go to achieve equality and 21% have no female directors on the committee.
More active participation
In view of these results, the association, which in 2017 promoted the Women, Business and Economy Observatory (ODEE) of the Barcelona Chamber of Commerce, calls for companies to carry out a "more active and continued participation in favor of equality". "The data shows, in general, that we are still halfway to achieving this milestone", adds the entity. In this sense it calls for a more consistent commitment to move towards achieving the 2030 agenda of the United Nations, which has as one of the main objectives the achievement of gender parity.
