'OK diario' muddies the euthanasia of Noelia Castillo

I am writing these lines when there are only a few hours left for Noelia Castillo, if there are no unforeseen events, to see her wish for assisted death fulfilled. The young woman granted an interview to Antena 3, and therefore accepts the mediatization of her case, but there are some coverage points that are difficult to digest. At Ok Diario, smelling blood and clicks, they have launched into creating content galore. Some try to pass themselves off as investigative journalism, as when they headline "Noelia Castillo will receive euthanasia today despite not being paraplegic: she walks with difficulty and the videos prove it". The suffering of this girl goes far beyond the sequelae of her suicide attempt by throwing herself from a fifth floor, but I suppose the media could not grant her a little empathy. In the article, they criticize El País for having said that the girl is paraplegic. They didn't need to look so far: several articles also in OK Diario describe her this way. But citing the enemy is a way of following Vox's argument, which has taken the opportunity to blame Pedro Sánchez for all of this.

Another headline turns the young woman's death into a macabre spectacle: "Schedule and how to watch Noelia Castillo's last interview before euthanasia (online and TV)". The first thing the reader encounters, before reading the text, is the journalist's signature, which defines herself as "Reporter for Happy FM. Waiting for new musical hits, reality show gossip, Turkish series dramas... and Benidorm Fest & Eurovision!". And now, also euthanasia, she can add to her flowery resume. In half a dozen articles, there wasn't a single one about the collective failure of not being able to assist a person with extremely complicated life circumstances. Suicide should not be a taboo, but we must talk about it with tact, compassion, and responsibility.
