BarcelonaIn 2008, British singer Duffy was playing on all the radio stations in the world with the song MercyBut three years later, he almost completely disappeared from public life. His silence was not due to a bad time at work but to a traumatic experience: For four weeks she was "raped, kidnapped and drugged", as she herself revealed in April 2020 in a letter published on her website. This week, the Welsh woman reappeared publicly for the first time in ten years – the last time she was seen was in a brief appearance in the film Legend (2015)–. He has been on the TikTok of the electronic music band E.motion, who had been playing on the networks for days with the possibility of making a remix of the song that made the singer famous.

In a short video in which she is seen with her characteristic blonde mane, Duffy moves her lips following the lyrics of Mercy, which plays in the background of the remix version released by E.motion. The reappearance of Aimée Anne Duffy, the singer's real name, has taken fans by surprise, who have expressed their joy at seeing their idol again. "Duffy, you were, are, and always will be sensational. Welcome back," says one fan in the comments of the video, which has already accumulated 76,000 views.

What happened to Duffy?

Duffy debuted in 2008 with the album Rockferry, which sold two million copies in the UK and won three Brit Awards and a Grammy for Best Pop Vocal Album. Two years later came the second album, Endlessly, which was met with lukewarm reviews. In 2011, it was announced that the singer was working on a third album, but her representatives released a statement detailing that Duffy would be taking some time off before entering the studio. The third album never came to fruition, and aside from a cameo in the film Legend (2015), the singer left public life.

Duffy's long silence was broken in 2020 with the letter in which she revealed the hell she had suffered during her time away from public life. The singer detailed that she was drugged in a restaurant on her birthday, the moment her ordeal began. She was kidnapped, taken to another country, drugged for a month and raped repeatedly, as she explained at the time. Threats and fear of possible media exposure meant she was hesitant to report the case, until, after being intimidated again, she decided to tell her story to "two female police officers." "I wasn't the same person for a long time. Rape is like a living murder, you're alive but dead," Duffy said.

"You might wonder why I chose not to use my voice to express my suffering. I didn't want to show the world the sadness in my eyes. I asked myself, 'How can I sing from my heart when it's broken?' And little by little, it started to mend itself," the singer once reflected. Since then, Duffy has sought to make her followers aware of the importance of reporting cases like hers.

Musically, the singer has remained away from the front line and, since 2020, she has only released two songs, Something beautiful and River in the sky, without doing any promotion or touring, beyond posting an old photo of him.
