BarcelonaGood news for bonÀrea, which closed 2024 with a net profit of €88.8 million, a 9.3% increase compared to the previous year. It also achieved revenue of €2.68 billion and created 538 jobs, the company announced in a statement on Tuesday.
The supermarket chain celebrated having "managed to increase profitability" even though the sector was marked by "geopolitical tensions, the volatility of raw materials, and falling fuel prices."
BonÀrea CEO Ramon Alsina explained that in 2024, the chain firmly consolidated its integrated model, "which allows for the management of the entire production process, from farm to table."
By area, human food recorded a turnover of 1.53 billion euros, 5.74% more than the previous year, while food service The sector grew by 20% in value and 14.5% in volume. Among the categories with the best performance were eggs, beef, processed meat products, bread, and pastries. Animal feed generated sales of 468 million; animal health and agricultural services, 22.7 million; and engineering and energy, 637 million.
600 stores
In terms of commercial expansion, the company ended 2024 with 597 bonÀrea establishments and reached 600 stores by March 2025, with the opening of a new supermarket in Pedrola (Zaragoza). Throughout the current year, it plans to open around forty stores, including new openings, relocations, and expansions.
This regional expansion combines a presence in large urban centers with implementation in smaller municipalities, the company explains. The company currently has its own stores in Catalonia, Aragon, Castellón, Madrid, Navarre, La Rioja, Guadalajara, and Andorra.
