The agri-food group bonÀrea celebrates this Friday with a new opening, bringing its total to 600 stores across Spain, 451 of which are in Catalonia. Last year, the company opened 16 new stores in Catalonia, complementing a total of 36 new openings across Spain. This Friday, with the opening of a new establishment in the town of Pedrola, Zaragoza, the agri-food group now has 600 stores.

This announcement is part of the company's expansion plan to "continue consolidating its presence in Catalonia and Aragon and advance its national expansion," the company explained. In fact, bonÀrea's first store outside Catalonia was also in Aragon (specifically in Zaragoza), and it opened in September 1996. By district, Barcelona is where there are the most stores, with 292 stores, followed by Tarragona with 56, Lleida with 53 and Girona with 50. ~BK_S_

As for the autonomous communities, after Catalonia, Aragon is the second with the largest presence, with four new openings in 2024, bringing the total to 89 establishments in the region. bonÀrea also has a presence in Castellón, Valencia, Madrid, Navarra, La Rioja, Guadalajara, and Andorra. In the first months of 2025, the company has added 10 new openings in towns such as Bujaraloz (Aragon), Almassora (Valencian Country), and in Catalonia, specifically in Barcelona and Arenys de Munt.

bonÀrea's expansion

"The opening of our 600th store is a milestone that reaffirms the success of our business model and the trust our customers have placed in us over the years," highlights Jaume Alsina, president of BonÀrea Corporació. "Thanks to our stores, we close the loop on our vertical integration model, ensuring that customers receive products from the farm to their tables in the shortest possible time, without intermediaries and with the utmost freshness and quality."

According to the company, the basis of bonÀrea's commercial strategy is "to bring its offerings to both large urban centers and rural areas with few food stores." By 2024 alone, fifteen of its new openings were in towns with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants. The opening of the 600th store in Pedrola, which has a population of 3,766, is no exception.

bonÀrea closed 2024 with more than 4,000 employees across its stores, adding a total of 7,300 m² of new retail space and exceeding 106 million tickets per year. However, the company will announce its financial results for 2024 next month.

Looking ahead to 2025, the company plans to open around forty stores. Of these, half will be new stores, while the rest will be relocations and expansions. The goal, the company says, will be to strengthen its presence in territories where the company is already present, such as Catalonia and Aragon, while advancing in the rest of Spain, in regions such as La Rioja, Navarra, Castilla y León, and Castilla-La Mancha.
