What can you do this weekend? Circus Nights, Sitges Barracas, Jordi Savall Festival, and more!
We offer some options to enjoy these days
Barcelona The ARA offers several plans throughout the country for this weekend.
Sitges Barracks
Silos. Until August 16
La Fragata Square is once again filled with the Sitges Barracas, offering free concerts and championing a diverse and inclusive popular culture. Performers include Akelarre, Jazzwoman, Lendakaris Muertos, Buhos, and Lo Puto Cat, who will be stopping at the Barracas on their farewell tour. There will also be a children's event with Cosquillas at the "Barraquetas." The organizers will provide a Purple Point and an area adapted for people with reduced mobility.
Jordi Savall Festival
Royal Monastery of Santes Creus, Valls, Alcover, and Montblanc. Until August 17
Founded in 2021 by Jordi Savall, the festival brings ancient and traditional music to historic venues in Alt Camp and Conca de Barberà. Highlights include Baroque pieces by Bach and Scarlatti performed by Pierre and Marc Hantaï, and Persian and Iranian music by Mehdi Emami, Mostafa Taleb, Saina Zamanian, and Tristan Driessens. The closing ceremony will be held with Canticum Pro Pacem, directed by Savall with the Royal Chapel of Catalonia, Le Concert des Nations and Hespèrion XXI, a journey through the conflicts of the 17th and 18th centuries that highlights the importance of historical memory and how the past can help us understand the present.
"From the center"
Barcelona. Until September 11
Eugenia Balcells (Barcelona, 1943) presents the final installation of her pioneering work From the Center (1977-1979), a multi-channel work with twelve videos recorded from the rooftop of his New York studio, depicting the world from a fragmented perspective: buildings, birds, traffic, the sun, the moon. The installation, which has now been acquired by the Catalan government and the MNAC, includes sounds by Peter Van Riper and a recent video in which Balcells explains the keys to the work, which combines technology and spirituality with a desire to generate an empathic connection with the universe.
Amposta's Major Festivals
Ampuesta. Until August 17
The capital of Montsià celebrates another edition of its local festivals with a packed agenda: folk dances, hot chocolate parties, bullfighting shows, family games, and giant gatherings. One of the highlights is the 60th Band Competition of the Amposta Philharmonic Union and La Lira Ampostina. On Friday night, Pepet and Marieta will perform a concert to coincide with the group's 20th anniversary.
Circus Nights
Besalú. Until August 16
From August 13th to 16th, Circus Nights arrive in Besalú with a revamped format. Nineteen award-winning artists of six nationalities will perform on a water track with dancing fountains and artificial rain. Without canvas or colorful domes, the impossible balances, aerial acrobatics, and skating will take place under the stars in Besalú's Molí Gardens. The performances, always at 9:30 p.m., promise a unique visual and sensorial experience.
Altafulla Crafts Fair
Altahoja. Until August 17
The 27th Altafulla Crafts Fair combines a traditional market with craft demonstrations, hands-on workshops, shows, and concerts. Visitors can learn how to make wax candles, leather bracelets, or origami figures, and enjoy musical offerings as varied as the Stromboli Jazz Band, Swing Engine, or the Celtic folk-rock of Salt 150.
Comalada Art & Word Festival
The Segarra Almond. August 16 and 17
Among the vineyards, the Celler Comalats hosts a new edition of the festival that combines music, poetry, and visual arts. David Ymbernon and Xavi Lloses will present their poetry and music show, while Ricard Skyhook and the Zorras Plateadas will bring jazz, soul, funk, reggae, and Afrobeat rhythms. Admission is through the reverse ticket office; cash and a glass for the wine are recommended.
"Sequence Shot Sequence"
Lérida. Until October 5
The La Panera Art Center hosts Sequence Shot Sequence, an exhibition by Almudena Lobera (Madrid, 1984) that reflects on the contrast between the tangible and rational and the subjective and ethereal. Articulated in two almost symmetrical parts, the exhibition creates a sense of déjà vu, as if the viewer were retracing their steps. The play of repetitions and variations distorts the familiar, evoking Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland, where the familiar and the unfamiliar coexist and blend together.
Festival Circuit
Barcelona, Vilassar de Dalt, Molins de Rei and Sant Adrià de Besòs. Until August 17
Circuit Festival, considered the largest LGBTIQ+ event in the world, celebrates its 16th edition this August with twelve parties and more than forty national and international DJs. The program includes sessions in pools, beaches, and concert halls, as well as live shows and side activities that turn the metropolitan area into a meeting point for thousands of people from all over the world. With events that combine electronic music, pop, and performances, the festival reaffirms its position as one of the summer's major events, both for its festive dimension and for its role in raising awareness of diversity.
Pyrenees Early Music Festival
Pyrenees. Until August 24
The 14th edition of the Pyrenees Early Music Festival brings musical art to Romanesque churches and heritage sites in more than 40 municipalities in the Catalan Pyrenees. The program includes 54 concerts with ensembles specializing in medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque repertoires. The organization offers tourist packages with accommodation and routes to discover the natural and cultural heritage of this region.
