BarcelonaAfter 37 years as editor-in-chief of the magazine's US edition Vogue, Anna Wintour is leaving her position, as reported by several specialized media outlets, but will continue as global director of content for Condé Nast and as global editorial director of Vogue. During her tenure, Wintour, who is considered one of the most influential personalities in the world of fashion, made Vogue much more than a conventional magazine and launched it as a publication with the power to set trends and designers.

Wintour, 75, revealed to her employees at a meeting on Wednesday that she was looking for a replacement. Condé Nast CEO Roger Lynch confirmed Wintour's departure in The Wall Street Journal and explained that she has been combining three jobs since 2020 and that she needs to "give time to everyone who needs her." The executive became editor of Vogue in the United States in 1988 and also directs the Fashion Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Met Gala. Before becoming editor, Wintour was the magazine's creative director and spent several years at the helm of the British edition. Her first cover, in November 1988, was highly impactful, as she chose to dress model Michaela Bercu in a Christian Lacroix sweater and $50 Guess jeans, signaling a rethinking of the magazine's style.

In the following years, Wintour placed numerous celebrities on the magazine's cover, and the content shifted from purely fashion to addressing current affairs and pop culture issues. Her fame soared after her tacit portrayal in the film The Devil Wears Prada (2009), an adaptation of the novel of the same name, where actress Meryl Streep played the ruthless head of a fashion magazine named Miranda Priestley.
