Trump claims the US military has sunk another drug ship in the Caribbean.
The US president confirms that three suspected traffickers were killed in the attack.
BarcelonaUS President Donald Trump has reported a new attack on a suspected drug trafficking vessel in the Caribbean, which has reportedly left three dead. The president asserted that "intelligence" had confirmed that the vessel was smuggling drugs and was headed to the United States. With this attack, The United States has already sunk four vessels linked to drug trafficking in the Caribbean., off the Venezuelan coast, since August. It was then that the Trump administration justified an increased military presence in international waters by the need to "combat drug trafficking."
Although US authorities have confirmed that the boats in the last three attacks came from Venezuela, in this case Trump has not clarified the origin of the boat or the nationality of its crew. The US president, as in the previous attacks, announced the destruction of the vessel with a video without audio in which a blue-toned boat is seen moving and then explodes upon impact with a projectile.
This Friday, Venezuelan Defense Minister Vladimir Padrino López reported that the Venezuelan army carried out a "successful" military maneuver on Orchila Island, in Venezuelan waters in the Caribbean, in response to the US deployment in the region, which has sparked tensions and President Nicolás Maduro insists the US mobilization is a plan to force "regime change" and impose a "puppet government" on his nation that satisfies Washington's interests. However, Trump denied on Thursday having held talks with members of his administration to plan "regime change" in Caracas.
