The measure is unprecedented in the history of the United States and is the most aggressive action the American president has taken in the open war he is waging against the media. Shortly after returning to the White House, Trump had already banned the Associated Press (AP) agency from being in the pool of the Oval Office – the group of journalists who follow the president – because it refused to use the new terminology he had imposed for the Gulf of Mexico: "Gulf of America." Beyond the threats, Trump has also filed several legal lawsuits against major networks and headlines in order to wear them down economically. The first was against CBS in October 2024, just before he took office, and the second was in December of that same year against the television network ABC.
