BrusselsSpain and Italy are working to lift border controls at ports and airports. The Italian government has decided to extend the suspension of the Schengen zone with the Spanish state for only one week, during which it is expected that their Interior ministers will work to eliminate them, as confirmed by Spanish diplomatic sources to ARA.
Giorgia Meloni's executive suspended the free movement of people following the massive entry of migrants into Ceuta at the end of July. A measure to which Spain responded with reciprocity.
The decision comes in the middle of a leaders' summit in Brussels, where Spanish President Pedro Sánchez has met for the first time with the Italian Prime Minister since the Ceuta crisis this summer.
