Historic victory of the independence movement in Wales in a Labor fiefdom

Labour lost Caerphilly, one of its Welsh strongholds, in a by-election to the Senedd (the national assembly) for the first time in over a century, marking a historic shift in the country's politics. Plaid Cymru's Lindsay Whittle won with 15,961 votes.
