Cavatast name ends: the festival of Sadurní d’Anoia will change to be inclusive of all sparkling wine cellars
The next edition will take place on the first weekend of October, it will be the thirtieth and it maintains the different format premiered two years ago
Sant Sadurní d'AnoiaIn a time of change, the most emblematic festival of sparkling wines from Sant Sadurní d’Anoia is also taking a turn. "We have hired an advertising company to search for and propose another one, which includes all sparkling wine producers in the territory," explains the mayor, Pere Vernet i Caldú, who advances that they have not found it yet, but are working to achieve it. "We know that the name Cavatast is very consolidated," he states. "One of the conditions that the producing wineries not affiliated with the DO Cava have set for us is that we change it if we want them to be included," he explains. It is clear that in the Sant Sadurní City Council, the organizer, they want them to be included, because otherwise, they considered that it did not reflect the richness of the producing territory, and that is why they have commissioned an advertising company to find a name.
Thus, in the next edition, which will take place on the first weekend of October, and which will be a special year because it will turn thirty years old, for the first time there will be wineries belonging to Corpinnat, Clàssic Penedès, and Conca del Riu Anoia, all the brands that currently coexist in the sparkling wine producing territory. The event will be unusual and unprecedented, and will be linked to the new times being experienced in the territory: concern about grape prices, transfer of major wineries to the Corpinnat brand, global crisis in the sale of alcoholic beverages, foreign companies that have acquired wineries and also recognized debts of traditional producers.
Change of location, inaugurated
In the last two years, Cavatast has already been taking steps of change. The year the writer Empar Moliner gave the inaugural speech, it premiered a new location, in Lluís Companys square. It also included the Vinari awards gala as part of the program, because otherwise, the festival found that some wineries were not attending, as they had to be present at the awards. "Now we are putting up a screen so that attendees can follow the awards, and we are even sponsoring an award," says the mayor.
The name change of Cavatast indicates a new era and wants to show that it wants to continue thinking about the future. "The festival has a great economic impact on all professional sectors of Sant Sadurní d'Anoia and the region in general," explains the mayor of Sant Sadurní, who has also revealed that this year the person in charge of giving the speech will be local. "We haven't told them yet, that's why I can't say the name," concludes Vernet.
