La Font del Gat: a historic space for making xerinola outdoors
This season we have rediscovered this historic space (and ventilated!) and is worth considering if you're in Barcelona. After closing during the pandemic, we've recovered The Cat FountainBeautiful gardens, magnificent views, and the architecture of Puig i Cadafalch.
It's time to have a good old fontada with friends. Get together and don't look at the clock. And when the pomada (which they've very cleverly put on the menu) starts to rise, end up singing the popular song, arm in arm with the people at the next table. And if anyone doesn't know the tune, tell them the story of where we are. Barcelona comes from a long way back, is very beautiful, and isn't (yet) just a stage set.
It's important that, now that we have this space back, it be an asset to the city and to those who live in it. Therefore, we must quickly take action so that the spirit of the place remains precisely what it has always been: that of a picnic area. They serve rice dishes, grilled meats, and tapas to share. The cuisine isn't elaborate, but it's good and succulent: croquettes, "spillada," or "torta de recapte." The owners are Grupo Confiteria, who specialize in restoring iconic establishments and updating them while preserving their essence. During the month of August, my favorite time to visit this space located within the Laribal Gardens in Montjuïc is in the late afternoon and evening, to see how the light changes and how the temperature (finally) drops. Oh! And check out the live music program: Jazz, rumba, and electronic music. Choose your adventure.
