The blackout in southeastern France is resolved: lights are back on at the Cannes Film Festival.
For five hours, 160,000 homes have been in the dark in the border area with Italy.

Cannes / BarcelonaShortly after 10 a.m., a total blackout occurred at the Cannes Film Festival, the most important European film event, which hundreds of international journalists are covering. Mobile phone service immediately went down as well. To everyone's astonishment, the blackout revealed itself to be a massive power outage across the western part of the Alpes-Maritimes, in the southeast of the country. Power was restored at 3:15 p.m.
According to France Press, police believe the fire was allegedly caused by a power line in the town of Tanneron, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region. The outage left 160,000 homes in the dark in the region bordering Italy. Luxury stores (Dior, Prada, Chanel) were closed, and people were out on terraces, shopping at bakeries, and strolling along La Croisette. It's a beautiful day, and there hasn't been any sense of alarm, despite the street police officers, common during the festival.
Tonight, at 7 p.m., the closing ceremony of the festival will take place, with the gala in which Carla Simón's film has a chance of winning the Palme d'Or.
