Sara Blanch, a great voice in the most prestigious opera houses in Europe

BarcelonaSoprano Sara Blanch has a toothbrush in three different places: Bologna, Barcelona, and her parents' house in Darmós, the town in the Ribera d'Ebre region where she was born in 1989. "I have a base in Barcelona and another in Bologna, which is where my partner is. When I have work in Italy and Central Europe, I stay more in Bologna, because there is a good connection. And if I work in France or Spain, I stay in Barcelona and I am closer to my village and my parents' house," she explains. And she has plenty of work. Sara Blanch is living the best moment of an artistic career that has long been gathering praise.

She is a singer with "a great gift for high notes and coloratura" and has "absolute mastery of expressiveness and nuance," as noted by journalist Aniol Costa-Pau in ARA. "She is one of the great light sopranos of today, a regular in the seasons of the most prestigious opera houses in Europe. With an agile and fresh voice, especially versed in coloratura, she treasures a beautiful singing line, of great expressiveness, molded onto a truly beautiful timbre," adds critic Jaume Radigales about a soprano who has won prizes in competitions like the Tenor Viñas and who has managed to win over the audience of theaters like the Liceu, where she has sung almost every year since she debuted in 2017 with a role in the concert version of the opera Thaïs by Massenet.

A belcantist by nature, with great roles in operas by Donizetti and Rossini, Sara Blanch has been expanding her repertoire, from Vivaldi to Benet Casablancas. "I like working on different repertoires, as long as they are suitable for my voice, because that way I explore possibilities. It is about looking at the evolution of the voice and where I can go in accordance with the physical and vocal sensations of the moment," explains the soprano. And it is in this way, with good sense and daring at the same time, that she is achieving success in the main European operatic cathedrals, and leading a generation of Catalan singers that allows one to speak frankly of a great moment for the country's opera.

Throughout 2024, she made her debut at the Paris Opera performing the role of Oscar in Un ballo in maschera by Verdi, and at the Covent Garden in London sharing the lead role in La fille du régiment by Donizetti with the Peruvian tenor Juan Diego Flórez in a production by Laurent Pelly. She has also been Mélisande in Pelléas et Mélisande, by Debussy, at La Scala in Milan in a production directed by Romeo Castellucci, and Susanna in Le nozze di Figaro, by Mozart, at the Liceu, in the staging by Marta Pazos. And the agenda for the coming months includes roles such as Aspasia in Mitridate, re di Ponto, by Mozart, in Naples; Mussetta in La bohème, by Puccini, at the Gran Teatre del Liceu and La Scala, and Gilda in Rigoletto, by Verdi, at the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich.

Sara Blanch will also have a prominent presence in the Beethoven bicentenary that is commemorated next year. She will be one of the soloists in the Ninth Symphony that Daniele Gatti will conduct in Dresden and Vienna.
