BarcelonaThe same announcement has already been repeated three times: in 2020, in 2021 and now in 2022. Sony will not participate in this year's edition of the Mobile World Congress as a result of the pandemic, Cadena SER reported this Thursday. Sources from the Japanese company have explained that this year they will not have a stand at the mobile world fair and are considering whether they will participate in the virtual format to communicate their news.

Sony already cancelled its presence at the two previous editions of the MWC due to the pandemic (the one in 2020 was totally cancelled and the one in 2021 was held in a very reduced format), and was one of the first big brands to announce it. For now it is the first major casualty for this edition of the Mobile World Congress, which for the time being will be held as planned, between February 28 and March 3.

On Monday the CEO of the organising body, the GSMA, John Hoffman, confirmed in a letter that the event will only change dates if the Spanish authorities request it. The executive insisted that they expect more than 1,500 exhibitors during the four-day congress and assured that health measures will ensure the safety of attendees. On the other hand, the audiovisual sector fair ISE announced this week that it is postponing its celebration until May due to the pandemic, since the obstacles to international travel complicate the arrival of many of the attendees.
