The weather

Summer heat for a few days starting today, but the first hints of autumn are already in sight.

Temperatures will rise sharply and may reach 35°C again in the warmest areas of the country.

BarcelonaYesterday's slight change in the weather was more painful than wonderful. Scattered showers fell in some regions, leaving up to 6 l/m² in Sort (Pallars Sobirà) and 4 l/m² in the city of Tarragona. Not much. And from today onwards, calm and sunny conditions will prevail over most of the country, with still some cloud cover, especially in the morning in some places. But above all, we will notice a clear rise in maximum temperatures after the drop in the last few hours. We are in for a few days of excessively hot and muggy conditions for the season, with the highest highs approaching or reaching 35°C in the West and inland Ebro. It seems that from Sunday onwards, instability will increase, and next week we will see a clear cooling off, coinciding with the official arrival of astronomical autumn.

Wednesday: hotter

During the morning, there will still be low clouds in coastal and pre-coastal areas, especially in Barcelona and Tarragona, as well as in central Catalonia. Some showers or drizzle are still possible in Camp de Tarragona. However, the sun will dominate the rest of the region, with some high, thin cloud bands. Throughout the day, sunny conditions will eventually prevail in most regions.

A pleasant day to take advantage of, and above all, with significantly more warmth. Temperatures will rise sharply, with many highs ranging between 27 and 32°C, with more intense muggy conditions near the sea. Towards the west and inland south, these figures will be exceeded, with values between 32 and 34°C. Needless to say, these are above average for the season, so we'll sweat more than we should.

Summer heat has an expiration date

The weather will change little between Thursday and Saturday. It will remain calm, with more sun than clouds in general, and virtually no risk of precipitation anywhere. Temperatures will remain similar to Friday's, or at most increase by a few degrees. Intense, summery heat, atypical for our climate.

However, this warm weather is doomed, as the week will end with changes. The maps indicate that between Sunday and Monday, a pocket of cold air will arrive, clearly reactivating instability, with locally strong showers and thunderstorms in many regions. A still uncertain situation that we will have to confirm, but which will pave the way for a significant cooling off later. The signs of autumn are on the horizon, coinciding with the official arrival of the new season on Monday.
