BarcelonaThe rains that began Sunday afternoon and have continued until now have been very irregular, but rainfall has been widespread, with some areas experiencing significant accumulations. In parts of Priorat, Terres de l'Ebre, and Alt Empordà, rainfall has exceeded 100 l/m²; Falset stands out with over 200 l/m² (all the data can be found at the end of this report). The weather has been unsettled due to the very humid maritime winds driven by the remnants of the storm. Emilia, This weather pattern will continue through Tuesday across our Mediterranean region, with further showers expected in several areas. Temperatures will remain relatively mild. It looks like the second half of December will continue to be unsettled.
Tuesday: More rain
This Tuesday will be another very unsettled day, with skies ranging from variable to quite cloudy, depending on the area. In fact, this morning the humidity is so high that there is a lot of fog and low cloud. There will be more clear skies in the morning, which will become concentrated towards the Pyrenees – especially the western Pyrenees – as well as in the Ponent region and some areas of the northeast. Scattered showers are possible throughout the day in coastal and pre-coastal areas, particularly around Barcelona and Tarragona. They may also appear in other parts of the region, but very irregularly, mainly affecting areas of the Pre-Pyrenees and the southern slopes of the Pyrenees. More widespread precipitation is expected in the south of the country in the afternoon. The snow level will be around 1,800 meters.
Meteocat maintains alerts for locally intense showers that could produce more than 20 liters per square meter in just half an hour, especially along the coast and pre-coastal areas. There are also new warnings for rainfall accumulations of more than 100 l/m² in 24 hours in some areas of the southern and northeastern parts of the country.
More rain is expected across the Valencian Community, locally with thunderstorms and some downpours. Aemet (the Spanish State Meteorological Agency) maintains yellow warnings for heavy rain throughout the Valencian Community. Scattered, light showers are also expected in the Balearic Islands, although the archipelago will be less affected.
All this with temperatures that will see little change in Catalonia, or only rise slightly in the Pyrenees. In contrast, they will drop in the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands. We woke up to very moderate cold in general, with no frost outside the high Pyrenees. Maximum temperatures will be within the average range, with many values between 11 and 16 °C, locally slightly higher.
New changes on the horizon
Between Wednesday and Thursday, the weather will improve significantly, with more sunshine and little risk of rain. However, towards the end of the week, the weather will turn again, with a risk of further rain and more snow in the Pyrenees. This instability will continue through Christmas week. There are still a few days to go, and we need to confirm the forecast precisely, as there is some uncertainty. Temperatures are expected to drop with these changes, creating a more wintry atmosphere to officially welcome winter, which arrives on Sunday.
