The heat wave intensifies and new heat records could be broken
The mercury will brush 40 °C between Friday and the weekend
The temperature rose clearly yesterday Wednesday, when it exceeded 35 °C in many inland points and new heat records were registered in a month of September, as in the case of the Fabra Observatory, where the 33.6 °C measured is the highest value since 1914. All of this is the prelude to an exceptional heatwave that will cause the temperature to be well above the climatic average, with forecasts of registering new temperature records in the coming days.
Thursday: the heat intensifies
Sunny day and very calm atmospheric conditions, with the presence of only some coastal clouds on the southern coast, especially towards the Costa Daurada, the Ebro Delta and the Valencian Community. In the rest of the territory, the sun will shine and the atmosphere will be of full summer.
The temperature will continue to rise as the days go by and, in general, the values will be between 30 and 35 °C. 36 °C will be reached in some points of the interior, with heat that is unusual for the beginning of September. In fact, in some places in Ponent and the interior of the Ebro valley, 37 °C could already be exceeded. The minimum temperature will also rise and tropical minimums will once again gain ground on the coast, the pre-coastal area and in Ponent, with some torrid records on the central coast.
Friday: heatwave environment
Day with morning cloud intervals on the Costa Daurada and the Ebre, with some decorative cumulus clouds in the afternoon in the Pyrenees. The mercury will reach the episode's maximums at some points on Friday, when highs will reach 37 °C or 38 °C in more inland locations, with some local records of 39 °C or 40 °C. These are unusual values and, in many cases, record-breaking, which would not even be common at the end of July or the beginning of August. The weather will remain calm, the sun will be the protagonist and there will be no precipitation on the horizon.
The peak of the heat wave will arrive between Friday and Sunday
The mass of warm air affecting the Iberian Peninsula will reach its peak between Friday and the weekend, with an exceptional temperature at 850 hPa (about 1,500 meters). It would not be strange to reach a record at this level with the data from the radiosonde launched from the University Zone of the Catalan capital. On Friday, the temperature will reach 37 °C or 38 °C in the central pre-coastal area and in regions such as Bages, and it could approach or exceed 40 °C in Ponent and the Ebro valley, a situation that will also be repeated both Saturday and Sunday. On Monday of next week, the thermometers will begin to normalize.
