The heat of midsummer is advancing again in the coming days

BarcelonaThis Thursday we woke up to a cool and unsettled atmosphere. Maximum temperatures began to rise in some places, but the midday heat remained moderate, with only 30 or 31°C locally reached in the southern interior. We experienced the last day with the mercury under control and quite normalized for the dates, as in the coming days thermometers will rise non-stop. Another summer heatwave, advanced for the season, awaits us, with values above average. Throughout the weekend the atmosphere will be particularly warm, with many highs above 30°C in the pre-coastal and interior areas, but exceeding 35°C in Ponent and Ebre. The arrival of a warm air mass from North Africa will coincide with a powerful anticyclone that will guarantee sun and calm everywhere.

Friday: hotter

Temperatures will take a significant step forward this Friday. The early morning and first hours of the morning will still be cool overall, although minimums will rise in some areas. Maximums will climb with more enthusiasm than Thursday, with many values between 27 and 33°C, but even so, 35°C will be locally reached or approached in Ponent and the Ebro valley.

A summery atmosphere that will be accompanied by absolute calm. Radiant sun will be the clear dominator everywhere, with only some low cloud or morning fog that will dissipate quickly, and in the afternoon, if any cloud grows in the Pyrenees, it will be anecdotal and completely harmless. Moderate north wind in the morning at the extremes, and in the afternoon only in Empordà.

Very warm weekend

The thermometers will still soar more this weekend. We are expecting a Saturday and Sunday of full heatwave, with many highs from 30 to 35 °C, but up to 37 or locally 38 °C in Ponent and the Ebro. They will only be shorter in mountainous areas and coastal stretches, here with more marked mugginess. Minimums will also rise, with tropical nights gaining ground on the coast. And there is no clear end in sight to this summer heat.

All this with sun and generalized anticyclonic calm. Therefore, the large amount of solar radiation hours we will have will contribute to raising the mercury. The incursion of warm African air will also be accompanied by Saharan dust in suspension. Perhaps from Sunday onwards it will be easier for some afternoon showers to reappear in the Pyrenees.
