On the eve of a weekend with wind, snow in the Pyrenees and a wintry atmosphere
The weather will keep changing with a bit of everything.
BarcelonaThe unsettled and changeable weather of the last few hours and days offers no respite, and this variability will continue in the coming days. A front passing through during the early hours of Thursday will bring snow to the Pyrenees, some showers to the rest of the northern half of the country, and wind to several regions. Friday will be a calmer day, a lull before we await the arrival of westerly rain that will sweep across the country from west to east until early Saturday morning. The weekend will be wintry without extremes, with snow in the Pyrenees on Saturday and strong winds due to the passage of a front and the formation of a small Mediterranean low that will quickly dissipate. Sunday will be cloudy, although it looks like it will be a manageable and less windy day. And next week could begin with more rain. This dynamic weather pattern shows no signs of letting up.
Friday: day of impasse
The passage of a weakening front will bring rain to the Pyrenees overnight and into the early morning, along with showers in other parts of the northern half of the country. Strong winds will pick up again in the central and southern regions, the Empordà, and the Pyrenean peaks, with blizzard conditions expected. The snow level will fluctuate between 1,000 and 1,200 meters, locally lower in the western Pyrenees. By early morning, only a few isolated showers will remain in the northeast, which will dissipate quickly.
During the day, sunshine and calm conditions will prevail, but from the afternoon onwards, cloud cover will increase again from the west, with the first showers in the Lleida region and the interior of the Ebro Valley, moving eastwards overnight. Westerly winds will persist, more moderate in Catalonia and stronger in the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands. Temperatures will be higher, both minimum and maximum.
Very changeable weekend
During the night, early morning, and first hours of Saturday, showers will cross from west to east, potentially falling anywhere. Throughout the day, sunshine will prevail in most areas, with snowfall on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees, which may occasionally extend to the southern slopes. The snow level will fluctuate between 900 and 1,200 meters, locally lower in the Lleida Pyrenees. In the afternoon, cloud cover will increase in the northeast, with a chance of some light and isolated showers. All of this will be accompanied by strong mistral and tramontana winds affecting the entire central and southern parts of the country, the Empordà region, and the higher elevations of the Pyrenees, with blizzard conditions. Adverse conditions will prevail in the high mountains. A drop in temperatures will bring a wintry feel without extremes, with many temperatures between 8 and 13 °C.
Sunday will be a calmer day, with easing winds and variable skies but no precipitation. Only a few showers are possible in the Lleida Pyrenees, and the snow level will fluctuate between 1,300 and 1,500 meters. Based on current weather maps, next week could begin with another round of precipitation. Therefore, weather fronts and dynamic conditions will offer no respite in the coming days.
