Some showers and temperatures down: arrives the least warm day of the week

BarcelonaThe change in weather that began yesterday due to the passage of the tail of a worn-out front has intensified in recent hours. Since dawn, some irregular showers have been circulating from west to east. They do not affect the whole country, but they are appearing in various regions, especially in the northern half. So far, between 2 and 12 l/m² have accumulated in areas of Girona, northern Barcelona, northern Ponent, in the Pyrenees or around Priorat. And these showers will continue to fall during the early morning hours with strong clouds everywhere, but throughout the day sun and calm will gradually impose themselves over a large part of the country.

Temperatures have dropped in recent hours, especially in the interior and the Pyrenees. Yesterday we already had more moderate heat, with the mercury only reaching up to 30 or 32°C in Ponent and Ebre, far from the 35°C of Monday. Today the thermometers will hit bottom, with a generally comfortable atmosphere and many maximums of 23 to 28°C. The next night will also be cooler everywhere. But this slight cooling will not last long, as the heat will once again climb positions in the coming days, and the weekend will be summery again. The anticyclone will reassert itself, with absolute calm and radiant sun everywhere.

Wednesday: less heat and some showers

Temperatures will drop even further this Wednesday, with more coolness in the early and late hours everywhere –including the coast– and heat under control at midday. There may only be a temporary rebound of the mercury on the southern coast. Many highs are expected between 23 and 28 °C, with more coolness in mountainous areas, and at most up to 30 °C in Ponent and the Ebro. A comfortable atmosphere with values quite normalized for the time of year.

All in all with a risk of showers and drizzles of a very irregular and scattered nature during the morning that will move from west to east. They can fall practically anywhere, but especially in the northern half of the country. Not much all in all, and during the second part of the day sun and calm will dominate in most counties. Only remnants of clouds will remain in the north of the territory, with some local showers in the Pyrenees, especially in the north of Ripollès and on the north face of the mountain range.

Therefore, the rain will not make an appearance during the main event of the visit of Pope Leo XIV to Catalonia. Regardless, the north wind will blow at both ends in the morning, and in the afternoon only the tramuntana will remain in Empordà.

Summer heat returns

The cool spell will not continue, as heat and summer weather will return in the coming days. Temperatures will rise on Thursday, and between Friday and the weekend, they will again exceed 30°C in various parts of the pre-coastal areas and inland, and 35°C in Ponent and the Ebro. The Azores high will embrace us fully again and will dominate much of Europe, with absolute calm and sun with practically no exceptions.
