Warm peak for All Saints' Day, with a cold front arriving on Sunday
The nights will remain autumnal, but the highs will be on a roller coaster ride
BarcelonaOctober has ended very calmly, after a chestnut festival with temperatures above average for this time of year. Minimum temperatures didn't drop below 15°C on the coast, 8°C in the Ponent region, and in the Pyrenees, for example, they hovered around 3°C or 4°C. Yesterday, temperatures reached 25°C again in towns along the Ebro River, such as L'Aldea (Baix Ebre).
Today – All Saints' Day – the Indian summer we've been experiencing these last few days will peak, with short sleeves or shirts expected at midday in many areas. The mild weather will continue over the weekend, with bands of clouds increasing in the west and the Pyrenees. A cold front will cross the region tonight and into Sunday, bringing showers to some areas and northerly winds to the outer reaches, along with a drop in temperatures.
All Saints' Day with the peak of Indian summer
The sky will be generally clear, with some high, thin clouds, but also fog and low clouds in inland areas, so be aware of reduced visibility on the roads in these early hours of the day. Today will also be marked by temperatures that will rise a few degrees. Therefore, the Indian summer will reach its peak, with an unusually warm atmosphere for the first day of November. Many highs of 21°C to 26°C are expected, locally higher, with the highest values along the coast and in the pre-coastal areas.
All this under very calm skies and plenty of sunshine combined with thin, high-altitude clouds. From the afternoon onwards, the approaching front will bring increased cloud cover to the west and north of the country. Therefore, the sky will generally be overcast from then on. And even towards the end of the day, there's a chance of the first showers in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees of Lleida. The southwesterly wind will return with force in the Girona region, especially from midday onwards in higher elevations and along the coast, with rough seas.
Weather change Sunday
The cold front will finally cross us on the last day of the weekend, though it will be quite weakened, bringing changes to the weather. Rain will arrive on the northern slopes of the Pyrenees during the night and early morning, continuing as light and intermittent showers throughout the rest of the day. Scattered showers are also expected in other parts of the region overnight. The snow level will descend from the initial 2,500 meters to 2,000 meters.
There will also be some very scattered afternoon showers in parts of the Girona and Barcelona regions, and in northern Mallorca. Elsewhere, the sun will prevail, but strong mistral and tramontana winds will pick up in the southern half, in the Ponent region, and in the Empordà, with rougher seas.
The arrival of colder air will bring down temperatures, especially in the north of the country. However, along the southern coast, the wind will blow warmer, resulting in a brief warm spell. Temperatures will range from 17°C to 22°C, higher in the south, with a return to normal temperatures expected next week and little rain in sight. Nights will be colder, as the models indicate, particularly on Monday and Tuesday, with temperatures potentially approaching 0°C in the Pyrenean valleys, where frost is expected in the high mountains. Inland, temperatures will range between 2°C and 5°C, while along the coast they will drop to around 10°C. At least we'll have a more autumnal feel than we do now.
