The weather

No new big calories are seen for the remainder of July.

Between the weekend and the beginning of next week, temperatures will drop and instability will increase.

BarcelonaToday, temperatures reached their peak in the West, with intense heat and highs of up to 39°C in the city of Lleida itself. Also notable was the inland Valencian region, where temperatures today exceeded 40°C. However, the Ebro River did not reach the same highs as yesterday, and in the rest of Catalonia, the atmosphere was summer-like, but far from extreme. Only in Gironès and Alt Empordà did temperatures locally exceed 36 or 37°C due to the superheated southerly wind. This Friday will remain calm and warm, but the mercury will drop a few degrees in the regions of Lleida and the north. Between the weekend and the beginning of next week, more cold air will enter from above, lowering temperatures and increasing instability, with showers that could emerge from the Pyrenees. However, current maps don't predict any significant or widespread rains or major heat waves. We're in the dog days, so it's time to sweat, but there are no exceptional situations in the medium term.

Forecast map for this Friday morning.

Friday: calm and midsummer heat

We'll wake up after another tropical night—minims above 20°C—on the coast and in many areas of the pre-coastal, southern, and western parts of the country. Even some torrid lows—over 25°C—may be repeated in some urban areas along the coast, primarily in the city of Barcelona, due to the heat island effect. The nighttime atmosphere will be heavier and muggy in these areas, but more pleasant elsewhere.

Friday will be another day of sunshine and calm, although low morning clouds may be even more abundant and present for much of the day on the coast and pre-coastal in the southern half. In the afternoon, dark clouds will gather in mountain areas, at most bringing a few drops or isolated showers in the Pyrenees and western Pre-Pyrenees.

Forecast map for this Friday afternoon.

Maximum temperatures will drop slightly inland and in the north of the country, especially in the West and northern Costa Brava. Therefore, Lleida's area will not see figures as high as Thursday's. Intense heat is generally expected, and muggy conditions on the coast will be slightly above average, but not stifling in most regions. Many highs will reach 30 to 35°C, and slightly higher in the traditionally warmer areas.

Weekend with some changes

The weather will show signs of change in the coming days. Between the weekend and the beginning of next week, a deep low pressure area in the British Isles will bring us some cold air at altitude, and even the tail end of a front. This will cause temperatures to drop and increase instability.

Scattered showers could fall early Saturday morning in practically every location. The rest of the weekend will see repeated afternoon showers in the Pyrenees, the Pre-Pyrenees, and nearby areas. And perhaps between Monday and Wednesday, storms will reach more regions. An uncertain situation that we will have to continue to determine, but which would also mean even more bearable heat and temperatures returning to normal for the time of year. No heat waves or severe heat waves are expected for the remainder of July.
