BarcelonaStorms became more prominent throughout Saturday afternoon and evening. This was due to the approaching front and the channeling of some cold air into the middle and upper layers of the atmosphere. This combination, along with temperatures still exceeding 35°C in many regions, contributed to the generation of powerful storm clouds that accumulated up to 123 l/m2 Rainfall in English (Jungle), with intensities of more than 50 mm in 1 hour (you'll find all the rainfall data at the end of this report).

Today, the forecast is also for thunderstorms in the afternoon, although they will be less intense. There is a possibility of exceeding the risk threshold of 20 l/m.2 in 30 minutes in the northeast, with greater probability in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees regions.

Forecast for Sunday morning, the 6th.

Sunday: instability and moderate heat

The passage of the front will also cause marked instability today. The sky will change from mid-morning to midday, when storm clouds will form. The first showers are expected around midday, most likely towards the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, and possibly in parts of the central and northern coastal foothills. As the hours pass, these showers will intensify and spread to the northeast. Rain will fall again in the Empordà region, the Costa Brava, and the northern central coast. Locally, there will be some intense weather, such as thunderstorms and hail, with very abundant hail at times, although less intense storms and lower accumulated amounts than yesterday are expected. Meteocat maintains a warning for heavy rain.

Heavy rain warning.

It will be calmer further south and also in the west. It will be warm, with highs around 36 or 37°C, but they won't be as extreme as they were a few days ago.

Forecast map for this Sunday afternoon.

The rain will help cool the atmosphere, but the coast will still be hot, with temperatures around 31°C and some muggy conditions. In fact, temperatures will drop in the northern half of the country. Many highs will range from 28°C to 33°C, lower in mountainous areas and slightly higher in the west and inland south.

Monday and Tuesday: Heat at bay and cooler nights

The drop in temperatures will consolidate early next week. We can expect a moderately warm Monday and Tuesday, with many highs of 26°C to 31°C, slightly higher in the south and west. Nights will be more comfortable, with lows above 20°C only near the sea, where the muggy conditions will also diminish. Inland temperatures could drop to 17°C, and in the Pyrenean valleys, you'll need to pack a blanket because the low will hover around 9°C on Tuesday morning.

There will be some lingering showers, but the most notable will be concentrated between the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community. From Wednesday onwards, temperatures will rise again and the heat will become more intense. There's no new heat wave in sight, but we'll once again have above-average temperatures.
