A new unusual heat wave is coming: temperatures will exceed 37°C.
A bubble of very warm air coming from North Africa will accompany us all week with a midsummer atmosphere.
BarcelonaThe heat of midsummer has arrived early this year, and it won't let up. After the atypical heat of late May, which set some records, another week is coming, bringing us completely out-of-character values for the first half of June. Temperatures will often be between five and eight degrees above average and will be more typical of the dog days. All of this is the result of the arrival of a bubble of very warm air from North Africa in our country.
Thermometers have already risen further on Monday, but they will soar starting this Tuesday and, in many cases, will peak on Wednesday. Many highs these days will hover between 30 and 35°C inland and much of the pre-coastal and pre-Pyrenees. But towards the west, the atmosphere will be more torrid, reaching temperatures between 35 and 38°C. Very intense heat, then, and fully summery.
Outside of Ponent, some of the areas where the heat will also be particularly intense and where temperatures could reach or even reach 35°C locally are, for example, the Tremp basin, some inland areas of the Ebro River, and the Pla de Bages. In some coastal sections, temperatures could also occasionally reach 30°C, with very marked and increasingly intense muggy conditions.
In short, we'll be sweating profusely in the coming days, and this situation will continue throughout the week. Temperatures will drop slightly in most regions on Thursday, but the summery atmosphere will remain. The maps indicate that between Friday and the weekend, we could once again experience a scorching peak, especially inland.
Tropical nights, suspended dust and some showers
If very hot weather is expected during the day, nighttime temperatures will also rise. This will cause tropical lows to gain ground beyond the coast, affecting parts of the pre-coastal and some inland areas, such as Ponent. It will be from early Wednesday morning, especially, when lows above 20°C will become more widespread.
This very warm air mass from North Africa will also be accompanied by an outbreak of suspended dust. This will worsen air quality and make the sky brown and chalky. Instability will also increase slightly, and, for example, this Tuesday afternoon we will have thunderstorms and locally intense showers in the Els Ports area and the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, especially the eastern one. This water will be accompanied by mud due to this suspended dust.
Recommendations for coping with the heat
On days as hot as those expected this week, it's necessary to take some precautions. Drinking fluids frequently is recommended, especially for people who work outdoors. It's also recommended to wear light clothing, protect your head with a hat, and avoid prolonged sun exposure. Physical activity should also be avoided during the hottest hours of the day. It's advisable to visit people at risk, such as the elderly or the sick. Regarding nutrition, it's recommended to avoid high-calorie foods.
