Increasingly hectic weather in the coming days

BarcelonaThe weather in recent hours has been marked by clouds and some showers in the center and south of the country—especially in the Tarragona region—while in the north, the weather has been mostly sunny and calm (you'll find the most important precipitation data for Wednesday at the end of this report). These meteorological conditions have greatly aided the efforts to extinguish the fires in Baix Ebre and Anoia.

All this with very moderate and comfortable heat for the middle of summer. This instability will continue on Thursday, with high variability and the risk of new showers in some areas. All this while we await a pocket of cold air that could affect us between Friday and the weekend, which could bring a fairly widespread round of showers and thunderstorms.

Thursday: a bit of everything

The weather will continue to change, with a bit of everything this Thursday. We'll wake up again with some cloudy spells in the center and south of the country. Showers or light rain showers are not ruled out during the early morning and early morning, especially between the Barcelona and Tarragona coasts and central Catalonia. In the north, it will be sunnier, especially in the Lleida region. Showers are also expected in the Balearic Islands.

However, in the afternoon, clouds will gather in mountainous areas, leaving the sky changeable to partly cloudy across the country. This will be when irregular and locally heavy showers and thunderstorms will occur on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees, as well as in nearby areas, such as northern Central Catalonia and the northern half of Ponent. Meteocat has issued a warning for heavy rain in several regions in these areas. Showers in Els Ports and scattered showers on the coast and pre-coast of Barcelona and Tarragona are not ruled out.

The night will generally be good for sleeping, with a cool to mild atmosphere, but minimum temperatures will rise inland, especially in the West and south, where, along with the coast, tropical lows above 20°C could be recorded. Maximum temperatures will also rise further, especially in the regions of Lleida and Tarragona. However, the heat will remain moderate and breathable, with many values between 26°C and 32°C and marked muggy conditions on the coast. Slightly higher values will be seen in the West and inland south.

Possible round of storms this weekend

Between Friday and the weekend, the maps indicate an approaching pocket of cold air that will further increase instability. By Friday afternoon, rain will already fall in many parts of the northern half of the country, locally heavy. A general wave of showers and strong thunderstorms could arrive between Saturday and early Sunday morning. We'll have to monitor this situation, but it will soak the ground in midsummer. Temperatures will rise slightly further, but not to the extreme.

Balance of Wednesday's showers

Throughout Wednesday, there has been abundant cloud cover in the center of the country and especially in the south, where a few showers have fallen. The most notable showers occurred during the morning on the Ebro coast and in the Camp de Tarragona region (Tarragonès) and the 14 in the Alfacs region. This rain also reached the Baix Ebre fire area in a light and indicative manner, leaving negligible amounts, but with abundant cloud cover and increasing humidity, which, along with light wind and moderate heat, have contributed to the fight against the blazes.
