From summer to autumn suddenly: this is how the weather will change in the coming days
Starting Sunday, a pocket of cold air will arrive, bringing showers, thunderstorms and a clear cool down.
BarcelonaThe summery warmth and calm will continue into the coming hours. We're starting fairly mildly, with lows that have returned to slightly tropical temperatures in parts of the central and southern coast, as well as in Terres de l'Ebre. This comes after yesterday's particularly warm weather, more typical of mid- to late August, with very muggy conditions along the coast and highs once again reaching 35°C in several municipalities in the western part of the country. Today, temperatures will drop a few degrees, but the weather will continue to be intensely warm, muggy, and fairly sunny. The first changes will begin to appear on Saturday, with more cloudy spells and occasional showers or drizzle on the coast and in the western Pyrenees. Starting Sunday, a pocket of cold air will bring showers and strong storms to many places, and especially a significant cooling off that will abruptly transition us from summer to autumn, coinciding with the arrival of the new season next Monday.
Friday: a profitable day
Sunshine and calm will once again dominate this Friday. There will be repeated morning fog along the pre-coastal and inland areas, and on the coast there will be some harmless low clouds, especially between the Ebro and Camp de Tarragona, as well as on the Costa Brava. There will also be some patches of high, thin clouds. Temperatures will remain similar or drop slightly, especially inland. Small nuances on another very warm and summery day, with marked muggy conditions on the coast and many highs of 27 to 33°C in general, locally higher in the West and inland areas of the Ebro.
The weekend will end with important changes
The first changes will arrive on Saturday, although they will be minor. Throughout the day, we will notice an increase in cloud cover, especially along the coast and in the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees of Lleida. In these areas, the first drops or local showers may escape. These will be minor for now. Temperatures will drop a few degrees further, but the warm and muggy atmosphere will remain.
The most significant change will occur starting Sunday, with the arrival of a pocket of cold air from polar origin. Instability will be very pronounced, and showers and thunderstorms will appear at various points, especially from the afternoon onwards, although precipitation will already occur in the morning, especially in the Pyrenees and inland. The distribution of precipitation remains uncertain, but between the night and early Monday morning, significant downpours may sweep across the territory from west to east, also reaching the coast. In any case, please exercise caution on the roads and avoid high-altitude activities, as the weather will change significantly throughout Sunday.
A situation we should monitor closely, as it will pave the way for a significant warming. Temperatures will already be dropping on Sunday, especially inland and the Pyrenees, with high lows at the end of the day. It will be next week when we'll notice the drop, with a suddenly autumnal atmosphere that will leave behind the excessively summery heat of recent days. Remember that on Monday, at 8:19 p.m., astronomical autumn will officially arrive, so it will do so with a bang.
