Today Candelera will weep: a new cold front will bring more rain
The snow level will start high, but will drop to 1,200 meters in the western Pyrenees during Monday afternoon
BarcelonaThe first week of February begins with more unsettled weather due to the passage of frontal systems, which will bring more rain throughout Monday. Today is Candlemas, and the saying goes that If Candlemas cries (it rains), winter is over; if Candlemas laughs (it's sunny), winter is alive"Therefore, today Candlemas will weep, but we'll have to see if the saying holds true and if it really has little time left in winter. For now, the weather will remain normal for this time of year, and more snow is expected on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees during the day. And in the coming days, the weather will continue to change due to the passage of new storms."
Monday: Candlemas weeps, but winter is not yet over
Two fronts will cross the country today, bringing widespread cloud cover and precipitation, although no heavy downpours are expected. The first front will be warm and weaker, with scattered showers but little rainfall during the morning. Rain will sweep across the country from southwest to northeast between the afternoon and evening. The heaviest precipitation is expected on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees, where heavy snowfall is forecast for mid and high elevations, especially from the afternoon onward. The snow level will gradually descend throughout the day, dropping from 1,800 or 2,000 meters in the western Pyrenees in the morning to 1,200 meters by nightfall, slightly higher in the eastern Pyrenees. Minimum temperatures will rise due to cloud cover, but maximum temperatures will remain somewhat lower across the country.
The precipitation will affect the entire country and will also reach the Valencian Community and the Balearic Islands, although with less intensity. The heaviest rain (and snow) will fall on the southern slopes of the western Pyrenees and in parts of the northern half of the country, where locally accumulations will exceed 20 or 30 liters per square meter. Snowfall will again be heavy, with more than 30 centimeters of fresh snow at higher elevations and a powdery coating at mid-elevations as the snow level drops throughout the day.
Tuesday: the sun will prevail again
The sky will clear on Tuesday, with a lower minimum temperature resulting in a cooler morning. The mercury will also drop slightly at midday, although it will generally remain mild. Significant sea conditions are expected, with southerly swells exceeding one meter in height along many stretches of the Catalan coast. Between Wednesday and especially Thursday, the passage of a new front will bring more rain.
