Snowfall has been abundant, and on the southern slopes of the Pyrenees, it has been the heaviest of the season so far, with the snow level dropping to 1,000 m in some valleys. At the Boí ski resort (2,500 m), 80 cm of new snow fell, and in Espot (2,400 m), 60 cm.
Sunday was a transition day, but still with rain and snow.
The day is expected to be unsettled, remaining overcast and gray, but without the risk of heavy rainfall. However, there is still a chance of some intense showers, potentially accumulating 20 mm in 30 minutes, but large accumulations, like yesterday's, are not expected. During the morning, the highest probability of moderate showers will be concentrated along the central coast, in the northeast, and in central Catalonia. The south of the country will be less affected, as will the Ponent region, where there will only be clouds and perhaps some drizzle.
It will be a transitional day while awaiting a new wave of rain and snow starting on Monday.
Civil Protection maintains the Inuncat and Neucat plans on alert due to the expected heavy rain and snowfall. The Allaucat plan is on pre-alert due to a avalanche danger Heavy snowfall (4) is expected in the Ribagorçana-Vall Fosca area. The snowfall is widespread and is affecting, above all, the southern slopes, as well as the higher elevations of the Pre-Pyrenees. The snow level has fluctuated between 1,400 and 1,600 meters, although locally it has settled around 1,000 to 1,200 meters in the western sector. The sea will remain rough, with heavy swells and even rough seas along the Costa Brava.
This afternoon there could be some respite in the Pyrenees of Lleida, in the Ponent region, and in the south, although the sky will still be overcast and threatening. Meanwhile, rain and snow will continue in the Girona and Barcelona regions, as well as parts of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. The weather will be gray and damp, with temperatures not exceeding 13°C in many areas. Lighter, scattered showers are also expected in Castellón and the Balearic Islands.
Easterly and northeasterly winds expected from tomorrow
The formation of the Mediterranean storm Harry A storm with strong easterly and northeasterly winds will arrive at the start of the week. Heavy rain is expected across the region on Monday and Tuesday, particularly in the northeast and coastal and pre-coastal areas. Current weather maps indicate that these areas could see accumulations of over 100 or 200 liters per square meter in some cases. Meteocat has already issued a new warning for heavy rainfall.
Given these forecasts, the Sau-Susqueda, Foix and Darnius Boadella reservoirs continue to release water to accommodate all that will be arriving, since the internal basins are currently at 86%, with some reservoirs almost at full capacity.
The snowfall will be significant again in the mid and high elevations of the eastern Pyrenees with this new storm. In regions like Ripollès, eastern Berguedà, and eastern Cerdanya, some areas could see between half a meter and a meter of new snow accumulation between Monday and Tuesday.
Furthermore, the maritime storm will be intense along the entire Catalan coast, with strong winds and very rough seas on the Costa Brava. Waves will exceed 4 to 6 meters in height.
