Another round of rain and snow, with easterly winds at the start of the week
Between Monday and Tuesday, heavy rain will return, along with severe sea conditions and more snow.
BarcelonaRain fell across the country, with moderate intensity and, locally, accompanied by thunderstorms in areas of the pre-coastal and southern coasts. By 7:00 PM, we had accumulated 85 l/m² in Constantí, 70 l/m² in Tarragona, and 68 l/m² in Tremp (more data and rainfall and snowfall records at the end of this report).
Meteocat's warnings for accumulations of up to 100 l/m² of rain affect several districts, with the highest probability in the Camp de Tarragona, southern pre-coastal, Solsonès, Berguedà, Ripollès, Pallars Jussà, and Pallars Alta districts. Snowfall has been heavy at higher elevations, with the snow level dropping to 1,000 meters in some valleys. Warnings for snow accumulation also remain in effect.
Sunday was a transition day, but still with rain and snow.
Looking ahead to Sunday, the early morning will still be unsettled, and the rest of the day will remain overcast and gray, but without any risk of heavy rainfall. However, there is still a chance of some intense showers during the early morning hours, which could accumulate up to 20 mm in 30 minutes.
It will be a transitional day while awaiting a new wave of rain and snow starting on Monday.
Civil Protection maintains the Inuncat and Neucat plans on alert due to the expected heavy rain and snowfall. The Allaucat plan is on pre-alert due to a avalanche danger Heavy (4) snowfall in the Ribagorçana-Vall Fosca area. The snowfall is widespread and is affecting, above all, the southern slopes, as well as the higher elevations of the Pre-Pyrenees. The snow level has fluctuated between 1,400 and 1,600 m, although locally it has remained around 1,000 or 1,200 m in the western sector.
The sea will continue to be rough, with strong swells and even rough seas on the Costa Brava.
This afternoon there may be some respite in the west and south, although the sky will remain overcast and threatening, while rain and snow will continue in the Girona and Barcelona regions, as well as parts of the Pyrenees and Pre-Pyrenees. The weather will be gray and damp, with temperatures not exceeding 13°C in many areas. Lighter, scattered showers are also expected in Castellón and the Balearic Islands.
Easterly and northeasterly storms next week
The formation of a Mediterranean low-pressure system will bring a storm with strong easterly and northeasterly winds at the beginning of next week. Heavy rain is expected across the region on Monday and Tuesday, particularly in the northeast and coastal and pre-coastal areas. Current weather maps indicate that these areas could see accumulations of over 100 or 200 liters per square meter in some cases. In anticipation of this, the Sau-Susqueda, Foix, and Darnius Boadella reservoirs are continuing to release water to accommodate the expected rainfall, as the internal basins are currently at 86% capacity, with some reservoirs nearing full. Significant snowfall is also expected in the mid and high elevations of the eastern Pyrenees with this new storm. In regions like Ripollès, Vallespir, Conflent, and Alta Cerdanya, between half a meter and a meter more of new snow could accumulate locally between Monday and Tuesday. Additionally, the maritime storm will be intense along the entire Catalan coast, with strong winds and very rough seas on the Costa Brava. Waves will exceed 4 to 6 meters in height.
