Qué vadis, Nàstic?
Nàstic's trajectory since the unexpected dismissal of Dani Vidal as first-team coach at the end of last season is more than worrying. Vidal was a coach who had connected with the fans, and the chances of fighting for promotion were still very much alive, but the club's board decided to fire him and bring back a historic coach, the architect of their promotion to La Liga, the Galician Luis César, with the sole objective of lifting the team out of the Primera Federación (Second Division). But Real Sociedad's reserve team dashed their hopes.
A very long road to the promotion playoffs in June began again in August. Luis César barely got a taste of the pastries and was dismissed almost immediately in November. The Galician's third stint at the Nou Estadi came to an abrupt end, with far more disappointment than glory. If they say sequels are never as good, imagine the third... An experienced coach, Cristóbal Parralo, was chosen to right the ship and bring the team closer to promotion. After a nightmarish start to 2026, Parralo's record is worse than Luis César's, and not only is promotion further away than ever, but only two points separate the Tarragona side from relegation.
The abyss of the Second Division is very close, and the fans, tired of the disappointments of recent seasons – with the highway robbery in the playoff against Málaga in June 2024 as the culmination – are looking towards the directors' box. For now, the board is keeping the coach and making signings in the winter transfer window, hoping for a change of direction when the team is at its worst. It's also unclear what the current direction is. But that's not all! Nàstic's dramatic situation contrasts sharply with the great moment for football in the neighboring city, with Reus FC Reddis fighting for promotion to the Primera Federación, where Nàstic could find themselves next season, reviving derbies we haven't enjoyed for far too many years. But let's not get ahead of ourselves; it's only January. The final grades, as they say, come at the end of the season. However, so far, it's a complete fail for Nàstic.
