The first edition of the Hospi Jazz festival arrives
The new event, driven by the City Council of Vandellòs and l'Hospitalet de l'Infant, aims to be a reference point on the Costa Daurada.
Vandellòs and Hospitalet of the InfantL’Hospitalet de l’Infant will become from May 29 to 31 the epicenter of jazz in Catalonia with the celebration of the first edition of Hospi Jazz, a new festival promoted by the Department of Culture of the Vandellòs and l’Hospitalet de l’Infant City Council, which is born with the aim of consolidating itself as a reference cultural event on the Costa Daurada. For three days, this town will host concerts and activities mainly dedicated to classic jazz and dixieland, with the participation of prominent bands from the Catalan and Spanish jazz scene.
Hospi Jazz will be the third classic jazz festival to be held this year in Catalonia, after Jazz Antic de Sitges, which recently celebrated its 13th edition, and the Festival Dixieland de Tarragona, the pioneering festival of the genre, which this year has reached its 31st edition. Regarding the programming, the quality and variety of the participating ensembles stand out. La Vella Dixieland, with forty years of experience, is one of the most recognized bands in the European jazz scene and will perform at the Teatre Auditori with a repertoire faithful to the New Orleans sound. Gili-Romaní Hot Jazz Cats, led by trumpeter Ricard Gili and clarinetist Oriol Romaní, will offer a proposal full of swing and feeling inspired by the jazz of the 20s, 30s, and 40s.
The inaugural concert will be by Doc Scanlon’s Cool Cat Combo, a group led by New York double bassist and singer Doc Scanlon who recreates the authentic sound of jazz and swing from the decades of the 20s, 30s, and 40s with influences from figures like Louis Armstrong, Benny Goodman, or Duke Ellington. Apocadixie will also perform, a group that invites the audience to travel to the “roaring twenties and also at the ticket office on May 21 and 28, from 5 PM to 8 PM.
Most of the performances will be free and the two paid concerts, those by La Vella Dixieland and Gili-Romaní Hot Jazz Cats, scheduled at the Teatre Auditori, will have a symbolic price of 5 euros.
