Àlex Tous: "The best summer night is watching the sunrise in Cadaqués"

For the influencer Àlex Tous, the best summer night isn't just one, it's practically all the Sant Joan eves he has experienced in Cadaqués. It's a completely established family tradition: going up there with friends, celebrating his mother's birthday, and extending the party until sunrise. “It's a super nice day for the whole family and friends,” he assures.

The routine repeats almost every beginning of summer in the same way. Dinner at home or in a restaurant, blowing out candles with his mother, and then heading down to the town. “Until a few years ago, we used a lot of fireworks batteries, but the truth is: it's crazy to spend 400 euros for five minutes that last,” he says.

What never fails is carefully thinking about his mother's gift: “She's not materialistic at all, you can't give her material things, it has to be a gift with a sentimental background,” he assures. From there, the night continues with friends at Cadaqués' clubs. “Everyone is there that night,” he explains.

When the venues close, one of the essential moments arrives: a swim in the sea at six in the morning and breakfast afterward at the bakery, before going to sleep. Among all the Sant Joan memories, there is one that has remained particularly etched in his mind. “One year I returned alone by bike along the coast. I had that little bit of joy from having drunk a little, and I was going slowly while listening to music and the sun was rising,” he recalls. He ended up stopping at a beach just to contemplate the sunrise. “I loved that moment”.

He also remembers his childhood summers as a beautiful period. He says he had always been a very good student and that allowed him to start his holidays without responsibilities. Between Cadaqués, Manresa, basketball camps, summer tournaments, and family trips, he feels he had an intense and happy childhood. Also quite accident-prone. “I was quite active and crazy, and I ended up with many scrapes and wounds,” he explains.

During adolescence, summers began to combine basketball with the first nighttime outings and local festivals. The Manresa one, he states, was completely non-negotiable. “If you're from Manresa and you miss it, your friends get really angry,” he says.

Now summers are different because there are more responsibilities. “You're self-employed, you have to invoice and work,” he summarizes. However, he continues trying to maintain the essence of the usual summers: traveling, escaping to Cadaqués for a few days, and sharing time with his people. “Life is very short and summer even more so,” he concludes.
