Former NFL player and American writer Chris Kluwe was arrested in California after giving a speech against Trumpism at a city council meeting. During his speech at the Huntington Beach council, Kluwe protested against the city's decision to place a plaque on the town library containing the acronym MAGA. This is the abbreviation for President Donald Trump's slogan, Make America Great Again, which is also a movement that supports him. The former athlete said, specifically, about MAGA: "It's basically a Nazi movement."

After his speech, in which he called MAGA a "deeply corrupt" and "certainly anti-democratic" movement, Chris Kluwe went to the center of the plenary hall where he explained that his was an action of "peaceful civil disobedience." It was at this point that several officers restrained him and took him into custody.

Kluwe, who has lived in Huntington Beach for 15 years, began his speech by stating that residents agree with putting up a plaque to celebrate the city's library, but that "a large majority" is against including the acronym MAGA. "MAGA stands for eliminating trans people. MAGA stands for racism. MAGA stands for censorship and banning books," said the former NFL player. Finally, some of the attendees applauded the former athlete's final words, when he said that MAGA is a Nazi movement that "has traded the swastika for a red cap."

The officers handcuffed him and carried him out of the municipal hall on their shoulders after these words. Chris Kluwe, 43, was a top-level professional athlete for several NFL teams between 2005 and 2013 and is especially famous for his time with the Minnesota Vikings. Currently, he is dedicated to writing and is known for being a great defender of social causes, especially in support of LGBTIQ+ rights.
