Barça will assume the defense of the minor attacked by the police in Elche

The defense of the case will be handled by criminal lawyer Marc Molins, as the ARA has been able to confirm. The affected person, who spent the night at the police station and suffered multiple injuries and bruises all over his body, faces a charge of attempted assault against authority, which in his case (being a minor) could result in a few months of supervised liberty or community service. However, he has not yet been officially notified by the Public Prosecutor's Office for Minors.

Since the sequence of events and the main motive for the aggression were known (trying to enter the Martínez Valero with an estelada), Barça worked to serve the offended member. On the same Monday, the club president, Joan Laporta, called him personally to convey his full support and offer him the legal coverage he has finally accepted. On the same day, the entity published a statement criticizing the police action and recalling that carrying an estelada is not illegal: “It is a legal symbol and its exhibition constitutes a legitimate manifestation of freedom of expression.” In fact, at this Thursday's match at the Camp Nou against Athletic, the club will allow access for estelades promoted by various entities within the framework of an act of "exaltation" of this symbol and freedom of expression.

In return, in this match corresponding to the first (postponed) league matchday, the tribute to the world champions with the Spanish national team that was initially planned will not take place. In other stadiums in the First Division, this gesture has been made, for example, last Sunday at the Martínez Valero with Barcelona players Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal, Eric Garcia, Joan Garcia, Dani Olmo, and Pau Cubarsí. The same weekend, at San Mamés, there was also a desire to recognize the achievement of Nico Williams, Aymeric Laporte, and Unai Simón, but the Athletic fans reacted with whistles. After the violent episode in Elche, Barça has decided to suspend the same ceremony at the Camp Nou.
