Barça will assume the defense of the minor attacked by the police in Elche

BarcelonaThe underage member's family assaulted by the National Police before the start of Elche-Barça last Sunday has decided to accept the legal coverage offered by Barça. The defense of the case will be handled by criminal lawyer Marc Molins, as confirmed by ARA. The affected person, who spent the night at the police station and suffered multiple injuries and bruises all over his body, faces a charge of assaulting an authority, which in his case (he is a minor) could result in a few months of supervised liberty or community service. However, he has not yet been officially notified by the Juvenile Prosecutor's Office.

Since it became aware of the sequence of events and the main motive for the aggression (attempting to enter the Martínez Valero with an estelada), Barça worked to be at the service of the attacked member. On the same Monday, the club president, Joan Laporta, called him personally to convey his full support and offer him the legal coverage that he has finally accepted. On the same day, the entity published a statement criticizing the police action and recalling that carrying an estelada is not illegal: “It is a legal symbol and its display constitutes a legitimate manifestation of freedom of expression”. In fact, at this Thursday's match at the Camp Nou against Athletic Club, the club will allow the access of estelades promoted by various entities within the framework of an act of "exaltation" of this symbol and freedom of expression.

In exchange, in this match corresponding to the first (postponed) league day, the tribute to the world champions with the Spanish national team, which was initially planned, will not take place. In other stadiums of the First Division this gesture has been made, for example last Sunday at the Martínez Valero with Barcelona players Pedri, Gavi, Lamine Yamal, Eric Garcia, Joan Garcia, Dani Olmo, and Pau Cubarsí. The same weekend, at San Mamés, the achievement of Nico Williams, Aymeric Laporte, and Unai Simón was also to be recognized, but the Athletic fans reacted with whistles. After the violent episode in Elx, Barça has decided to suspend the same ceremony at the Camp Nou.
