The calçotada season is reaching its peak these days. The farmers who planted the calçots are harvesting them nonstop, and the restaurants that organize calçotadas are filling up with reservation after reservation. Amidst this constant activity, there's one restaurant that stands out precisely for the tranquility in which you can savor its calçots, its meat, and the entire experience that a calçotada entails. It's Esportell del Bou, a quiet, family-run restaurant that has gradually earned a place on the list of must-visit spots for enjoying good food.

The restaurant is located in Picamoixons, less than six kilometers from Valls (Alt Camp), and is easily accessible by car thanks to several parking areas scattered throughout the village, one of them right at the entrance. Esportell del Bou is next to the church and offers ample space. Formerly, this building housed two village houses, an olive oil mill, and a wine cellar. Now, the space is divided into pleasant and spacious dining rooms, perfect for a relaxed meal. Marta and Gerard's restaurant, run by two siblings with a passion for good food, is a prime spot to savor stews, paella, and grilled meats and vegetables, but these days bibs and the aroma of calçots are everywhere.

Their calçotades, served on tiles as tradition dictates, can be enjoyed at your leisure, without having to watch the clock, as there are no set times. The calçotada menu allows you to eat as many calçots as you like, and the main course includes salchichón, lamb, black sausage, and beans. Romesco sauce and aioli also accompany the dishes. For dessert, there are oranges and custard, and the menu includes bread, wine, water, coffee, and brut nature cava. All the products, from the calçots to the oranges and the cava, are locally sourced and of the highest quality. The calçotada menu is available on weekends, but can also be ordered during the week.

Marta and Gerard's commitment to authentic and welcoming calçotadas has paid off, and the restaurant is enjoying great success. Both siblings grew up surrounded by stoves and waiters, as their parents already owned a small restaurant. They studied hospitality and twenty years ago decided to follow in their parents' footsteps and opened their own restaurant.

Over the years, it has become a popular spot, especially for birthday celebrations and family meals. It's easily accessible from both the A-27 and the C-14, and parking is readily available.

Rooms and private rooms

The venue has a capacity of 200 people, although its layout might suggest otherwise: two very cozy rooms and a third, slightly larger one, all situated around a traditional village courtyard. There are also three private rooms: one for a group of 10, another for a group of 12, and a third, opened last year, with a capacity of 25. The spaciousness and the high-quality work have made Esportell del Bou a popular meeting place that enjoys a very good reputation far beyond the Alt Camp region. Customers particularly appreciate the friendly atmosphere and the warm service from the staff.
